Goal Setting - What You Need To Know
Posted by Reinecke Jesslyn on November 21st, 2009 filed in Goal SettingGoal setting is something that we have been taught since we were young. From grade school all the way through adult life accomplishing our goals is something we strive for. Often the problem is lack of know how. It's not because of lack of effort. Many times it’s usually the approach we take towards getting what we want. We have some tips to help you reach your desires and define what you want better.
1. Write your goals down. It seems a lot of us will try to just remember what we need to get done and that is great. The truth is when you see it written down you tend to put more value on it. Write down what you want to accomplish so you can look at it daily. This will keep you striving to reach them.
2. Make your goals specific. One of the biggest mistakes people make is making them too vague. Vague suggestions mean you may not get things done. By knowing exactly what you want to accomplish you can focus more on it. Vague suggestions or desires just give you a chance for failure. Be as specific as you can for greater success.
3. Keep it as simple as possible. Most people who strive for a certain goal do not make it simple enough. Making things too complex can frustrate you and make you give up quicker. By making it simple you are more likely to succeed and want to work harder towards it.
4. If you like, you can also share your goals and ideas with friends and family. Getting the support of others around you is important. They can help motivate you towards your desires. Sometimes we need a little push to reach them. Having support in place is a very good idea.
5. Your goals need to make sense as well. Do not make something that is not reasonable. Your goals and desires are reachable, but if you are starting out make it rational. Be sensible and success will be easier. Know what you’re capable of, and do not try to do more than you can.
Goal setting is something that we all need to do sometime in our lives. Short term goals and long term goals are often part of many people's goal plans. Whatever the goal, it's good to run over them periodically. No matter what happens, whether success or failure, goals will always be a part of our everyday lives.
