Killing Time Wisely: The Importance of Time Management

How many times have we heard someone complaining about the long list of work to be done without getting himself stressed just with the thought of it? Yes, it is normal to feel anxious about the looming deadlines without having much time to work on the tasks. They may have been introduced to “time management” by subjects in school like psychology or they may have been already advised by a “friend who knows” to manage their time. However, they may have just put aside the good stuff and take it for granted. As a result, we can expect them to work with worries eating on them. Well, it’s common to come across with people like that—- especially if they do not know the importance of time management.

Why is time management important?
Time management is important because as the old cliché goes, which has held truth since the days of old up to now, time is gold. And it is, as books and articles on time management claim. One such example is the saying, “We have time, keep time, buy time, save time, waste time, kill time, pass time, give time, take time, and make time”. Therefore, we need to manage our time so we can accomplish what we need to accomplish on or before the deadline and that is a good, if not best, output.

Furthermore, time management includes strategies, skills and ways that can help us maximize the time that we have and work on tasks efficiently and effectively. Hence, time management is extremely important; making it really helpful especially to those who need it and you could be one of them. Basically, there are five top reasons why time management is needed on the personal level and on the corporate setting. These reasons are the following: time is insufficient, scanty, vital and productive and should be maximized.

How much time do you have?
We all have the same number of time each day, each week, each month and each year. Yes, people all over the world have 24 hours to live but why is it that some seem to have more than 24 hours to kill because they can finish more than what others can finish. The secret is time management. If we do not manage our time carefully, what results is insufficient time. Since time ticks away, it cannot wait for us. Furthermore, we cannot store away the time that we haven’t spent well. So the best way is to make the best out of the moment; thus, carpe diem.

How much time left do you have?
Let’s accept the fact that time is scarce. Many people often blame the scarcity of time they have for lost opportunities like not enough time for physical fitness, low finances, missed objectives, too much anxiety, unstable relationships, and an unsatisfied life. With time management, you could have avoided those tight situations. Indeed, time management is important because it helps you make use of your time in ways that the outcomes are favorable.

How important is time in your life?
We need time to do something good in life. Spending time unwisely is not a good practice, a loophole which we should avoid at all costs. We must learn how to kill time effectively and efficiently for the tasks that need to be done— from the most important to the least important. If we can allot at least some minimal time each day for our objectives, we can expect for good results and for progress.

How productive is your time?
If you have limited and scarce time, time management is the best way to create time. By being productive, you can do more tasks without exerting much effort and you can reduce the amount of badly spent time. If you are time-wise, you can find time to perform a lot of work and activities that will lead to a well-lived life.

Are you time-wise?
We have 24 hours to kill and there are a number of ways on how we can kill it? There are a lot of activities both for work and for leisure that we want to do and/or that we need to do. However, we cannot do them all. We need to use that 24 hours for the urgent, top priorities. We need to spend our time not just effectively and efficiently but also wisely. We need to make good choices. We need time management.

Having all of these, we conclude that time management is just what the doctor ordered for those individuals who do not know how to plan wisely for the deadlines. It can help us achieve our goals despite the scarce and limited time that we have and the choices that we make. Lastly, if we are aware of the importance of time management and if we practice such importance, we can maximize and gain time for work and minimize stress for that.

As Samuel Smiles said, “Lost wealth may be replaced by industry, lost knowledge by study, lost health by temperance or medicine, but lost time is gone forever.
